The period from the start of January until the first week of February is the period we like to call Powder Season where visitors to Fernie can enjoy the best snow conditions and smallest crowds of the whole winter. Here are tips to make the most of a trip to Fernie during Powder Season:
Great snow! January historically is a great month to enjoy Fenrie’s legendary powder. As this chart from On the Snow illustrates, Fernie received fresh snow 24 out 31 days and a total 186 cm of snow last January!
No crowds! Here’s a live picture of the crowds today (1:48 pm January 11, 2017) at Fernie Alpine Resort. Need we say more? (Yes that is ONE person on the hill)
Hint: it always snows the most starting Sunday night so make plans to extend your weekend stay or even better join us mid week!
Fun events! Combining few days of skiing or snowboarding with some VERY fun events in Fernie is always the perfect recipe for a great holiday.
- January 14, 2017 Fernie Alpine Resort Kinky Rail Jam
- January 20-22 Reel Canadian Film Festival
- January 21 Fernie Alpine Resort Kokanee Snow Dreams Party
- January 28 Avalanche Awareness Day at Fernie Alpine Resort
